During this snow season, Blue Mountain offers the finest skiing and snowboarding in the province, and unsurpassed snowmaking capability assures consistent conditions, making it the perfect choice for skiers and boarders at every level of development. A nighttime run on the Blue Mountain under the lights is just unforgettable. Blue Mountain offers thirty-four trails, ranging from beginner to double black diamond, stretching across the scenic Niagara Escarpment, and reaching 720 vertical feet. Blue Mountain offers 13 lifts, including four high-speed six-person chairs. And there's plenty of action after the sun sets, with 22 trails and 10 lifts under the lights. Blue Mountain offers Snow School's with two learning centers. It's Snowboard School and Racing Programs. If it's freestyle terrain you're after, Blue Mountain's three freestyle zones, including the Terrain Park, deliver the full range of features, from super-pipes to beginner rails. Blue Mountain Discover Skiing & Snowboarding Circuit is a personal, flexible, learn-at-your-own-pace program offering a great introduction to skiing and snowboarding. Blue Mountain has programs for children and adults in recreational or competitive racing and we also offer great Park & Pipe programs. This season welcomes changes to the South Base Lodge learning centre with a new magic carpet and the addition of more beginner terrain, making the Discover Skiing & Snowboarding Circuit an even better introduction to the sport. Blue Mountain is situated on the shores of Georgian Bay and nestled into the Niagara Escarpment. This area of the province is stunningly beautiful. Blue Mountain has a very unique and unpredictable micro-climate due to the influences of the region with good weather. Blue Mountain uses thirteen pumps to push water up the hill at a maximum rate of 13 000 Gallons per minute (GPM) from 2 reservoirs fed by Georgian Bay. To help water freeze, Blue Mountain Resort have 420 tower guns, which allow the water droplets to fall further in the air than the traditional “sled” gun allows. The droplets freeze into “flakes” before hitting the ground. Snowmaking operation is far from simple. It is a clean, pristine, highly specialized and well oiled engine. Combine the efforts and talent of our current 10 person snowmaking team and you have over 100 years of experience. This winter's newest enhancement to the system is the addition of a new 1000 gallon / minute snowmaking pump bringing Blue Mountain Resort's total snowmaking capacity to 13,000 gallons of snow per minute. Accelerating production, Blue Mountain as well added 18 new snow blowing towers located on Smart Alec, the resort's central ski and snowboard run. |
